Geboren 1993 in Sibirien, Russland, begann Matvey bei seiner Großmutter mit dem Flötenunterricht und setzte seine Ausbildung in Hannover und München bei Prof. Andrea Lieberknecht fort. Matvey ist der erste Musiker in der Geschichte, der den 1. Preis in der Kategorie Holzblasinstrumente des weltberühmten Tschaikowsky-Wettbewerbs in Moskau und St. Petersburg gewonnen hat. Er ist auch Preisträger von Wettbewerben wie des internationalen "Aeolus"-Wettbewerbs, des Internationalen Musikwettbewerbs der ARD (München), des internationalen Flötenwettbewerbs in Krakau, des internationalen Unisa-Musikwettbewerbs und vieler anderer Wettbewerbe. Bereits im Alter von 20 Jahren hat Matvey die Position des Co-Principal Solo Flöte im Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich übernommen, wo er unter der Leitung von Paavo Järvi, David Zinman, Bernhard Haitink und vielen anderen Dirigenten arbeitet. Seit 2023 ist er Soloflötist des SWR Symphonie Orchesters Stuttgart.
